Remus J Lupin

Remus was born an only child to his two parents John and Nicola Lupin on March 10, 1960. The family lives in their small home north of Bradford in Yorkshire surrounded by a few other local wizarding families despite the fact Remus’ mother is a muggle. It took her some time to get used to magic, but Nicola is a very accepting woman and there was nothing that could destroy her love for her husband.

As a baby, Remus was entertained with stories his parents would tell him, not read to him, and he hardly ever cried. Before Remus’ seventh birthday, the woods outside the wizarding district became inhabited by werewolves who continued to steal and eat animals owned by the wizards, and on one occasion murdered a small child. Remus’ father was willing to do anything to protect his family from this threat, and began meetings for the wizards in the area to plan ways to kill the werewolves when they attacked again. Fenrir heard of John Lupin’s speeches, and decided to show the stupid humans they would never be completely safe. During the full moon, Fenrir sent two of his pack to the Lupin home to distract John (one of which was murdered), while he found the young Remus and gave him only a bite, something he believed would be worse than death.

Remus was forced to mature very quickly after the incident and the rest of his childhood was not spent around other children since the wizarding parents in the area were aware of his condition. The happiest day of his life was the day he received his Hogwarts letter. He and his parents had given up hope that it would come, and his mother had resorted to home schooling him, but the owl finally arrived less than a month before the train would leave to take Remus to the only place he ever felt truly happy and safe.
